Cupping
What is cupping?
Cupping is an ancient healing therapy from Chinese and Middle Eastern medicine.
It involves the use of cups, placed on the skin, and used to form suction. The cups can be made of glass, silicone, bamboo, or plastic and are placed on the skin for several minutes. Cupping is often combined with massage or acupuncture to help with treating sore muscles and tension.

What is cupping used for?
As with acupuncture, cups can be placed on the body’s meridians to promote balance and the flow of qi or energy. It can be used to help with the following:
- Back, Neck, Knee, and Shoulder Pain
- Digestive Issues
- Headaches and Migraine
- Muscular Tension, Pain, and Injury
- Limited Range of Motion
- Colds, Coughs, Asthma, and Lung Issues
- Hypertension
- Stress
It can also help with:
- Increasing blood circulation and improving blood flow
- Stimulating the immune system
- Promoting healing
Does cupping leave marks?
Yes. Generally, it does, but the marks will disappear after a few days. Maybe you’ve seen circular marks on the backs of sportspeople? That’s cupping.
And yes, it does look painful, but we promise it isn’t. The colour of the marks can tell you something about the state of your body. If you get marks after cupping, it’s likely you’ve got issues relating to toxin build up or muscle spasm. The darker the mark, the more severe the issue. Any marks left by cupping should lessen with repeated treatments.
