Acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the longest established and safest forms of healthcare in the world. It originated in China approximately 2,500 years ago and was used to address any imbalances in the body.
Using incredibly fine, sterile needles to target the body’s meridians, acupuncture promotes the smooth flow of qi or energy around the body, helping us to avoid ill health and pain.
In more modern times, acupuncture is used widely as an alternative to ‘traditional’ medicine and works by stimulating the body to release chemicals that help with managing pain, inflammation, reduce stress, encourage sleep, and enhance feelings of wellbeing. It also assists the body’s natural healing process.

What is it useful for?
- Digestive Complaints (IBS, Constipation, Reflux)
- Mental Health Issues
(Anxiety, Depression, Low Mood, and PTSD)
- Insomnia
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Male and female infertility issues and IVF support
- Headaches and Migraine
- Osteoarthritis
- Chronic Pain
- Fibromyalgia
Recommendations
Acupuncture is recommended by The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) as a treatment option for tension headaches, migraines, and chronic pain.
It’s also been successful in the treatment of acute and chronic conditions, joint and muscle pain and much more. There is a continually growing evidence base in support of its use.

Electroacupuncture
Electro-acupuncture is commonly used in acupuncture treatments. It’s achieved great results when used to treat chronic pain, sports injuries, and neurological issues. Small electrodes are attached to the acupuncture needles, which then stimulate the points where the needles are inserted and heighten the therapeutic effect of the treatment. As a patient, you’ll feel a gentle vibration which can be very comforting.
Infrared heat therapy
Infrared heat therapy can be used alongside acupuncture treatment. This therapy heats the body, penetrating deep into the inner layers of skin, muscle, nerves, and bones. The heat encourages local blood circulation and helps with pain relief, reduces inflammation, and relaxes muscles.
